Ecotricity's New Energy Plus
(formerly 'Old Energy')

back

The Good Stuff
This is from 100% renewable sources
As a company, Ecotricity is required to supply 6.7% of it’s energy from renewable sources, and it currently supplies 25% overall, which means that it’s creating additional renewable capacity for the UK.

The Bad Stuff
Ecotricity doesn’t retire any of its green-ness certificates ( explain this to me ). Some critics are a bit damming of this, saying they sell their ‘green-ness’ two or three times over.
It’s hard to know what to make of that. In one sense, it isn’t as great as it could be. In another, Ecotricity does commit to reinvesting all its profits in its windfarm business. The energy market is a competitive field so you can hardly blame a new renewables company for making as much money as they can from their certificates if they do then plough it back into windfarms.
